In a game of Poker, you use a deck of cards to place bets on hands. The cards are normally arranged on the table face down, with the highest-valued cards at the top. You will also have to deal out cards with value, and a game is called “full of chips” when there are more than seven players. Typically, each player will have a certain amount of chips – a white chip is worth five whites, a red chip is worth twenty or thirty-five whites, and a blue chip is worth two, four, or five reds. You can also play Poker “buy-in,” where each player buys in with the same amount of chips.

To determine the odds of winning a hand, a player must analyze the table after the dealer has dealt out five cards. The best hand is the one with the lowest possible probability, so a flush or straight is always better than a pair of tens. Different variations of the game use different rules for drawing cards. However, the ranking system is universally applied to determine which hand is best. Poker hands are ranked from least to greatest value.

Traditionally, there are five card hands, and the player with the highest pair wins. Other variations of the game include Three-Card Monte and Spit-in-the-Ocean. Several variations of Poker were developed over time, and the rules for each are explained in the following chapter. If you have more than 10 players, two separate games may be organized. This makes Poker a perfect game for a party, but it’s important to be aware of the rules before you start playing.
