During the game of poker, a group of players sits around a table and plays against each other. The aim is to produce the best hand of cards possible. The player with the best hand wins the pot. Poker is played in a variety of styles and the rules vary by game type.
The first player to bet has the privilege of making the first bet. The next player can either make the bet, fold or check. If all players check, the hand is shown to the table, and the winner is determined. If all players fold, then the betting phase ends.
The dealer, also known as the button, is a plastic disk that moves clockwise around the table. The player to the right of the button shuffles the deck. This is the first step in the game.
After the deck is shuffled, each player is dealt cards. A player can use up to four cards from the table, and must bet if they are not satisfied with the hand. If a player chooses to raise, he will bet an amount larger than his original bet. If the player chooses to fold, he will place his cards on the table and bet nothing.
The next betting interval occurs after the flop and turn. After the last betting interval, the player with the best hand will win the pot. The player with the best hand will then show his hand.
The hand that will be shown is the one that has the highest card. The hand that has the highest card will be the winner.
