Poker is a card game played between two or more players using cards and chips (or “blinds”). The goal of the game is to have the best five-card hand at the end of the betting round. The dealer deals each player two personal cards and then reveals 5 community cards (“the flop”). Players then try to make the best possible hand with their own two cards and the five community cards.<\/p>\n
A good poker strategy involves being able to read the opponents and play your hands in the most profitable manner. A good poker player will also be able to control the size of the pot by raising and betting when they have strong value hands, and calling when they have mediocre or drawing hands. Trying to outwit the opponents is often a mistake, as they tend to overthink and arrive at wrong conclusions about your intentions.<\/p>\n
The game is played with a standard deck of 52 cards, although some variant games use multiple packs or add extra cards called jokers. The cards are ranked (from high to low) as follows: Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.<\/p>\n
